Cinderella’s Closet is an opportunity for young women to purchase a prom dress and other accessories for $10 and less so that every young woman in Northeastern Pennsylvania can attend her prom feeling like the “Belle of the Ball.”
Cinderella’s Closet of NEPA held its first Unique Boutique in April 2014 at Genetti Manor in Dickson City, with nearly 475 dresses sold to hundreds of young women who attended. Carrying on the mission of the very first event, each young lady experienced a boutique atmosphere and had personal assistance in finding the perfect dress to make her feel like the “Belle of the Ball.” More than 2,000 prom gowns and formal dresses were available, as well as wraps, shoes and accessories from which to choose – all for $10 and under.
Cinderella’s Closet is run by a board of about 25 local volunteers, with an executive board overseeing the entire organization.
Dress donation drives are held throughout the year, with each gown carefully inspected by a Cinderella’s Closet of NEPA board member before being organized for the Boutique.
The Boutique also features ESTEEMtown, a series of free self-esteem workshops that young ladies can attend while waiting to shop. These workshops promote self-worth and remind young women of the importance of self-confidence and inner beauty, as well as discussions about choices they may face on prom night.
